What if salt has lost its taste?

Jesus said, Salt is good, but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? They threw it away. Jesus compares a Christian’s life to salt. If you want to know Jesus’ concept of a Christian life, then we need to think about salt. Jesus wanted us to know the value of a Christian’s life by salt.

We think about salt. The characteristic of salt is that salt makes water unfrozen. Rivers and streams are frozen in the wintertime, but the sea is unfrozen in any season, because the sea is filled with salted water. Salted water is unfrozen. How is it humanly possible to be unfrozen in the wintertime? Our body is 70% percent water which is salted water like the sea. God made our body salted water to protect us from freezing. But Jesus’ comparison is not only a body but also our soul and spirit. If we start to hate someone, then our mind becomes frozen. If we start to lie about something, then our mind becomes frozen. Do you know where humans go when a human dies? There is a freezer. After anyone dies, the body immediately goes into the freezer. So, we can think that frozen means already dead, but unfrozen means still alive. Salt makes water unfrozen. Furthermore, salted water protects foods from decomposing. You are salt means you are protected from decomposing in your spiritual life. So, Jesus said, “You are salt, you are alive.” Please do not close your spiritual eyes and ears. Jesus calls you salt. You can defrost all your spiritual relationships with friends, sisters and brothers, your church, and any place in which you stay in.

You are salt, God will use you to defrost the World!

Salt and saltiness are not separate. Salt is saltiness. When we cook food, we use salt for saltiness. The reason to use salt is saltiness. Jesus calls you salt, then what is your saltiness? Jesus wanted to let us know that saltiness is Jesus’ cross. Jesus said, if you want to be a Christian, then you need to carry the cross. Jesus never asked about our wealth. Jesus never asked us what school you graduate from. Jesus never asked us about our ability. But Jesus asks you to carry the cross. The Cross was the punishment of sin. The Cross represents suffering. The Cross is death. Jesus Christ died on the cross without any sin. Why? Jesus died on the cross instead of us, our sins, and Jesus changed all of the meanings of the cross. Jesus’ Cross became a salvation place for Christians.

Jesus said, You are salt, You need the saltiness. Your saltiness is to carry the cross. Please, do not give your cross to others. The Cross means that you do not focus your mind on money or pride. The Cross means to give up all your possessions. and that does not mean you have to donate all your possessions to non-profit organizations, but about your mind. You do not focus on the earthly things, but you have hope in heaven. “Do not store up treasures on earth, but store up treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. (Matthew 6:19-20) If we believe Jesus, and have hope in heaven, then your mind will find peace and love which Jesus gives you by the cross. The Cross is the best way to walk with Jesus Christ in our faithful life. God will use you as salt and saltiness. Amen.
